- What is Desktop-Lok
-
- Desktop-Lok is a utility developed to lock your desktop when you walk
- away from your computer or when your computer starts up.
- When running it displays a Virtual desktop as a camouflage,
- making it seem as if the desktop is not locked. When the user clicks
- on one of the standard icons a dialog will pop up prompting the user
- for a password. This utility also disables all multitasking keys so
- the user wonÆt be able to access the Taskbar, Task Manager or any
- application on the desktop.
-
-
- Please note: Make a backup of your registry files in case you forget
- your password or misspelled it, you can have access to your system.
-
-

-
- Supported graphic types are JPG, BMP, PCX, WMF and GIF.
- Screen savers run on top of Desktop-Lok as if it were the actual desktop.
- You can set Desktop-Lok to load when windows runs at startup.
-
-
- Bug Fixes
-
- Several bugs have reported by users, which support Desktop-Lok by using it.
- These bugs were security leaks and application failure. Some applications
- would come atop of the Virtual Desktop. If you shut down Windows and Windows
- Explorer for example was not closed before shutting down, the application
- window would float over the Virtual Desktop allowing unwanted users to snoop
- in your workstation. It would bring up the start menu over the virtual desktop
- hence defeating the purpose of the application.
- Another bug was when the user set an invalid file type as wallpaper.
- It would write the settings to the registry and the next time that the application
- ran and tried to load the wallpaper, it would cause it to crash. Desktop now will
- recognize invalid file types and files that have been moved or deleted and will not
- write them to the registry. If and invalid file is specified, it will ignore the file
- type and clear the current setting from the registry although you can still specify
- a valid wallpaper while in the Desktop-Lok control panel.
- When it loads the next time it will still safeguard
- your workstation regardless if you have specified wallpaper or not.
- These bugs however have been taken care of and this should not happen in the future.
